The Geological Museum of China, built in 1916, is world-renowned geological museum, boasting 200 thousand specimens. It has been the leading light among the same kind of Asian museums for its time-honored history, large number of ancient records, high percent of curiosities, delicate display and rich achievements in scientific research.

After more than 3 years of large-scale renovation, on July 14, 2004, the Geological Museum of China was reopened with a new look. Granite spreads on the floor of the hall and trilobite fossils are inlayed in the pillars. In the five major displaying halls (earth hall, mineral rock hall, gem hall, hall of life before history and hall of land and resources), displaying tens of thousands of precious specimens. Furthermore, the museum provides such service as specimen appraisal and consultation, specimen mending and experiment display. All the above activities show that the Geological Museum publicizes scientific knowledge from small points to explain the mystery of the earth and geology.
